LIME, the Caribbean’s only full service telecoms provider partnered with Jamaican Oliver Samuels, the King of Caribbean comedy and veteran actor along with Shadow, the renowned calypso and soca icon from Trinidad and Tobago who both performed in a Musical Comedy Spectacular in Boston and New York on October 16-18, 2009. The show also featured Audrey Reid from Jamaica and Grenada’s Super P with special appearance by the Contemporary Dance Theater Company.

David L Smith, Vice President of Marketing and Communications said, “Throughout the years, LIME has been in the forefront of highlighting the culture of the Caribbean and we are pleased to use this opportunity to give Caribbean nationals in the Diaspora a taste of what they have been missing.”

Oliver Samuels and the other artists on the tour have been performing internationally for years and they are not strangers to the stage. “Oliver Samuels and Shadow performing together is nothing new,” says producer Nick Cox. “There were two unforgettable and exciting shows in July of 1990 and 1991 when Oliver and his sidekick Volier “Maffi” Johnson had sold out performances with Shadow, Black Stalin and Singing Francine.”

The versatile Mr. Samuels was lauded by fellow artist Jean Kelly White who performed with him in the 1990’s. She said, “Some Oliver Samuels fans are accustomed seeing him in plays but they don’t realize that Oliver is multitalented, he became famous by doing skits and he gets on stage with entertainers from other islands. The October event is the talk of New York.”

The event was the first where Mr. Samuels performed a few skits together with Audrey Reid in New York. Ms. Reid is the actress in the movie, “Dancehall Queen” and she has been performing to international audiences for many years.

Another notable artist sharing the stage was Shadow, the former Soca Monarch, National Calypso Monarch and Road March winner, who has won all titles in calypso and shared the stage with Michael Jackson when the Jackson Five performed in Trinidad and & Tobago. He has appeared in Caribbean movies and one of his hits, “Everybody is Somebody” was part of the soundtrack in the motion picture “Lean on Me” starring Morgan Freeman.

LIME Country Manager Mark Romney said “The commitment by LIME to the promotion of Caribbean talent is broad based. We sponsor local talent across the region and stand with the One Caribbean approach of recognizing local and regional artists.”

LIME believes that being an active participant in the promotion of Caribbean talent is demonstrative of the commitment that the company has for the region. ”
