(LIME, THE VALLEY, ANGUILLA) -  The beneficiaries of LIME’s generosity have always been wide and varied, reaching into almost every home, organization and club in the Anguillian community. In spite of the current economic environment, this has not changed and the past few weeks saw many LIME sponsored events and donations as the company continues to support various community initiatives.

On Saturday 28 October 2009 the Optimist Club of Anguilla ably organized and executed the 7th successful ‘Anguilla Race Against AIDS’. LIME was the largest sponsor of this event having donated funding for the tee-shirts for both athletes and officials. Additionally, LIME’s support to sports and local cricket talent was further demonstrated when gifted young cricketer Kelbert Walters received a cheque of US$1500 from the company to fully meet his expenses for the purchase of much needed cricket gear. Walters has been selected to play in the West Indies Under-19 cricket tournament scheduled to take place in New Zealand in January 2010.

Also receiving the usual financial support is the Festival d’Noel celebration which has in fact benefitted from a larger donation this year than in previous year.  This year, LIME has committed to sponsoring the ‘Calypso Song Competition’ slated for Wednesday 16 December and a cheque of US$2500 was made available to the organizing committee just last week.

Also doggedly pursuing their intentions to bring cheer to their village is the North Side Community Foundation which plans to light and decorate their Christmas Tamarind tree on 19 December 2009.  LIME has  contributed to this cause with a donation of US$1500.

Meanwhile, the spirit of Christmas in The Valley will not be dampened and on 10 November, LIME presented a cheque of US$8000 to Mr William Vanterpool and Ms Vernette Reid representatives of ‘The Valley Community Christmas Festival of Lights’ organizing committee. Working with a much reduced budget this year, the committee was forced to take the decision to light only the big tamarind tree by the trough as corporate sponsorship which enables the lighting of the other trees has not been forthcoming.  This however has not deterred them and they have forged ahead with plans for a week of activities. The opening ceremony and tree lighting are slated to take place on 12 December 2009.

Forming part of the schedule of activities around ‘The Valley Community Christmas Festival of Light’ is the Omega Car Fest which LIME has been the major sponsor of from its inception. The representatives of the organizing committee received a cheque of US$5000 in support of their upcoming Car Show which is slated for 13 December 2009 at the Coronation playing field in The Valley.

Another event which forms part of ‘The Valley Community Christmas Festival of Lights’ is The Valley Youth Sports and Culture Club’s Candlelight Service slated for 17 December at The Valley Basketball Court. LIME has made available EC$1250. 00 to this group of committed young people for the purchase of candles as they take the opportunity to reflect on the last 12 months and commemorate and celebrate the lives of loved one in their community who have been lost tragically over the past few years.

Wrapping up the donations in November, LIME was able to make a contribution to our island’s celebration of Tourism Week by contribution US$1000 to the Anguilla Tourism Gala 2009, slated for Friday 4 December at Coba’, Viceroy Resort and Residences. This cocktail, dinner and awards ceremony celebrates the successes in Anguilla’s tourism industry over the year and is a highly anticipated and well supported event.  LIME’s Country Manager Mark Romney commented “LIME is proud to be associated with the Anguilla Tourism Gala and congratulates the organizers on being able to coordinate and execute this event in the usual grand style.” He went on “in fact we are extremely happy to offer Anguilla more than just telecommunications services and take great pride in being able to make financial contributions when possible, to the many positive, industrious groups and organizations working to benefit our communities.”
