A talented, young Anguillan high jumper, Ms. Shinelle Proctor has received an athletic scholarship from the University of Illinois in the United States of America.  “The Fighting Illini” was among several schools who were trying to woo Shinelle to their institution.

The University of Arkansas, Columbia University, the University of Connecticut and Akron University were other schools vying for her presence at their campus.

Shinelle’s scholarship resulted from two exceptional performances at the 2008 and 2009 CARIFTA Games. The jumps measured 1.65m in 2008 and 1.70m in 2009.  Both of which earned her bronze medals in the two respective games.

The Anguilla Amateur Athletics Association would like to congratulate Ms. Proctor on her achievement.  It is hoped her efforts will serve as a catalyst to inspire other athletes to improve their performance and reach to higher heights.
