Anguilla Volleyball action hot, hot, hot
(The Valley, Anguilla) - Over the weekend volleyball action intensified as teams vied for the eight spots of the playoffs. On Saturday the Spartans were defeated by a very confident team Dynamite with a score line of 25, 15; 25, 20 and 25, 17. Later that night the league debutants Long Bay Sea Gulls (LBSG) and Destroyers tangled in another five set thriller. However the cooler heads of the LBSG won the game with a score line of 25, 19:25, 20: 19, 25: 18, 25 and 15, 13.
On Sunday the confident Dynamite experienced some problems as they failed to explode against the Spikas. Beset by inconsistent passing and poor communication, team Dynamite suffered the wrath of Spikas as they were dismissed in three sets with a score of 25, 16: 25, 10 and 25, 17.
In the main event match the Hylanders and Kumite sparred in thrilling game. It was Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson versus Andre “half man, half amazing” Samuel as both gentlemen tried carrying their team to victory. Hylanders seemed sluggish as they lost the first two sets, thanks mainly through good blocking from their opponents Kumite. With their backs against the wall the Hylanders and their hitting machine know as “Skywalker” woke up and began dismantling Kumite. The game then took on a suddenly familiar tone as Hylanders stole the show. However some mental blunders on the Hylanders behalf opened the door for Kumite. Unfortunately their inability to capitalize on errors denied them victory. The score line for the game was 25, 19; 25, 16; 20, 25; 20, 25 and 14, 16 in favour of Hylanders.
In the semi finals next week on Saturday Spikas will play Spartans in the first game, while Uprising will play against the Long Bay Sea Gulls. On Sunday After Shock will play Dynamite and Hylanders will play Kumite. The winners of each game will play for the championship in next week’s game.
