The local ICC Venue Office Staff for the WT20 West Indies 2010 cricket tournament met with members of local media on Monday October, 26. Each member of the team gave a brief overview of their responsibilities.

Event Manager, Mr Val Henry outlined the importance of the tournament to St Kitts, and highlighted some of the differences between Cricket World Cup 2007 and the upcoming Twenty20 tournament experience for cricket fans. He spoke about the unique challenges of staging women’s cricket as a new phenomenon to St Kitts. Mr Henry encouraged the local media to take the opportunity to get accredited as this would ensure their ability to cover the entire tournament and not just the matches in St Kitts. The re-entry policy which gives ticketholders the ability to come and go as they desire was featured. All that is required is a valid ticket and adherence with the sensible and sensitive security measures. Another attribute of the games next year focuses on the ten percent quota of free and low-priced tickets available to youths under 16. Mr Henry stressed the point that the games would be CAPTIVATING, CONTAGIOUS, CRICKET designed with the family in mind.

Mr Steve Saunders, Cricket Operations Officer then revealed a packed itinerary including practice, warm-up, and tournament schedules starting on April 30th, and climaxing May 12th when the teams depart St Kitts. His presentation focused on the decentralization of the warm-up matches, May 2-4 with the utilization of cricket grounds in St Pauls, Conaree, Molineaux, and Cayon. The Len Harris Academy would also feature in the team’s preparation with scheduled practice sessions on May 1st.
With logistics being an important part of the overall planning, Marlene Liburd outlined her role with a keen focus on the volunteer program. She disclosed that an orientation session was planned for a date to be announced, for persons interested in serving as volunteers. Marlene also sent out a call for caterers, vendors and bar operators to collect the necessary documentation at the ICC Venue Office, Warner Park between 9am and 4pm.

Promotions and Corporate Services Officer, Mr Clement Ogarro then zeroed in on the ticketing aspect of the tournament to be hosted in Guyana, St Lucia, Barbados and St Kitts. With the first phase of ticketing starting on November 1st, he outlined the importance of Caribbean residents getting a two week advantage over international patrons to purchase the best seats for the games. This could be done by logging on to www.iccevents.yahoo.com, ringing the Call Center at 011 44-207-998-3125 or visiting the ticket offices in St Lucia, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad. International sales commences on November 15th.  Mr Ogarro also highlighted the affordability of ticket prices in the other 3 venues with prices ranging from US$5 to $40. He also stressed the fact that everyone in St Kitts would be given an opportunity to attend the games as all tickets would be complimentary.

With minimal restrictions inside all match venues, and a chance to pay one price for two games daily, this event is already gearing up to surpass all expectations previously experienced in the Caribbean. Sponsors such as Reliance Mobile, LG, Pepsi, Emirates, Yahoo, Reebok, and ESPN are onboard to ensure that the ICC WT20 West Indies 2010 cricket tournament would be CAPTIVATING, CONTAGIOUS, CRICKET in St Kitts and the other 3 host venues.
