(George Town, Cayman Islands, SMG-media) – The 39th Carifta Games 2010 wrapped up at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in the Cayman Islands on Sunday night following three days of terrific competition among junior athletes from throughout the region.  A total of 12 records fell at the competition and the young talent revealed bodes well for the future of track in the region.

Jamaica was once again dominant at the meet, winning a total of 72 medals, including a commanding 37 gold, 22 silver and 13 bronze. If there was any bright light for the remaining countries it would be in the fact that they managed to restrict them to two fewer gold medals than what was won in 2009, however, overall it was five additional medals. In the 4x400m relays that came at the end of the competition, they won the women U17, women U20 and men U20 but finished fourth in the men U17 behind Trinidad and Tobago, The Bahamas and Barbados.

Trinidad and Tobago put in a powerful performance on the tracks, securing 40 medals – 12 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze. For the twin island, calypso nation, it was a significant improvement over their showing in 2009.

The Bahamas secured 29 medals with 6 gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze to finish third overall; an improvement of one medal over 2009. The team doubled their gold medal count from 2009 in St. Lucia though they were weighted more in bronze overall this year.

Anguilla's Shinelle Proctor jumped 1.70m to finish fifth in the Women U20 High Jump behind the gold medalist Shanice Hall of Jamaica who jumped 1.80m.

The LIME sponsored live online stream grew from about 1800 viewers on the second day to over 3800 on Day 3. It was an excellent initiative that perhaps that Digicel sponsored Windies Cricket could adopt.
