The programme comprises three evening workshops with day time consultations available to parents for one-on-one discussion. Later in the year three additional workshops will be offered to the island’s Parent-Teacher Associations for delivery in different communities. This year’s programme is being supported by the Fellowship of the Least Coin, a global ecumenical women’s prayer movement committed to praying for justice, peace and reconciliation. As women pray for justice, peace and reconciliation, they set aside the least coin in their own currency that is gathered to support praying women all over the world. The focus of the 2010 Parenting Education and Support programme will be on empowering mothers to protect their children against sexual abuse and helping parents to inculcate the value of peace. The programme coordinator, Ijahnya Christian is a certified parenting education facilitator and co-facilitator will be Yasus Afari, peace advocate and Ambassador to the Council of the Parliament of the World’s Religions. The workshops are organized annually as part of the Anguilla Stingray Programme run by Triple Crown Culture Yard and Bankie Banx of Rodney House at the Dune Preserve. The programme uses music as a non-threatening means of engaging children’s creativity and making appropriate interventions for their protection and development. Enhancing skills for parenting in 21st Century has been identified as a priority area of intervention.
