Familiar foes to tangle in Volleyball finals
(The Valley, Anguilla) - The Table is set and only four teams are invited to the 2010 Digicel sponsored National Volleyball Championship. The four competing teams earned their places over the weekend with some very classic volleyball. On Saturday Spikas made quick work of the young Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School lady Spartans. The score line for the match was 25, 18; 25, 11 and 25, 14. In the second game of the evening Uprising expected little resistance from the new kids on the block the Long Bay Sea Gulls (LBSG). After being dismantled in the first set, LBSG fought tooth and nail in the second set but were unable to stop the Uprising. The third set seemed like a blur to the men from Long Bay as each error seemed to throw them further into disarray. The score line for the game was 25, 9; 25, 17; 25, 11 in favor of the mean green machine.
On Sunday Dynamite and After Shock tangled on the Volleyball court with crude results for Dynamite. After Shock was brutally efficient in the first two sets as they easily disposed of their opponents. With their back against the wall, the long awaited explosion of talent finally surfaced as Dynamite took the third set through aggressive hitting led by Janai Gumbs and good passing by Eva Hodge and Rickisha Leverett. The dream of winning a second set was soon aborted by After Shock as they shook up the Dynamite defense, while stifling its offense. The game culminated in a 25, 10; 25, 16; 23, 25 and 25, 12 win for After Shock.
In the night cap Hylanders conducted a volleyball clinic with Kumite as the subject. His airiness Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson was brutally efficient with his passing and his hitting. “Skywalker” was well supported by Randy “Jimmy “Thompson and Merrick “Prince” Richardson. Despite the numerous pleas from Justus Connor, kumite seemed unable to muster any fight at all. Like a hot knife through butter Hylanders melted Kumite with a score of 25, 19; 25, 14 and 25, 19.
Next week Saturday (17th April) starting at 7:00 pm the lady Spartans will play Dynamite while the Long Bay Sea Gulls will play Kumite. Both games will be for third place in the respective leagues. On Sunday familiar foes will tangle as Spikas will play After Shock at 6:00pm, while Uprising will play Hylanders at 7:00pm.
