Anguilla prepares for the OECS Volleyball tournaments with practice games against Stars n’ Stripes
Over the weekend Anguilla entertained visiting volleyball teams from St. Martin in a series of practice games. On Friday evening the lady Stars n’ Stripes played a very tense game against the Anguilla female practice squad. Stars n’ Stripes pushed the Anguilla OECS female practice squad to the limit thanks to smart playing by Susan Webster and her teammates. However, Ludiann Leverette and Khalidah Banks lead the Anguilla OECS practice squad fight back with some vicious hits and good. This was the recipe that allowed the Anguilla practice squad to gain a victory over team Stars n’ Stripes. The scores were 19, 25; 25, 20; 20, 25; 25, 22; 15, 10.
In the second game of the evening the male Stars and Stripes tried to tame the Anguilla male OECS practice squad. Unfortunately for Stars n” Stripes there was confusion between the setter and hitters. This was contrary to the machine like performance of the Anguilla team, as Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson and Ian “Tucker” Connor devastated their opponents. The game culminated in a 25, 19; 25, 10; 25, 19 victory for Anguilla.
Stars n’ Stripes found their grove on Saturday as they rocked Anguilla’s practice volleyball foundations to the core. The practice squad girls could not respond despite numerous efforts of Kia B, Ludiann and Connie. The now totally focused Stars n’ Stripes proceeded to suffocate Anguilla with good defense and aggressive offense. This resulted in a well deserved victory for team Stars n” Stripes, with a score line of 19, 25; 20, 25; 20, 25; 20, 25.
From the beginning it was obvious Stars n’ Stripes wanted to continue the winning ways of their lady counter parts. Their high flying hitters could do no wrong as they pulverize a porous Anguilla practice squad defense. Down two sets, it seemed as if the writing was on the wall as a confident Stars n’ Stripes smelt victory. Then suddenly there was a blur as Sherwin ‘Skywalker’ Richardson came to help rescue his practice squad team mates. His presence helped the team to win three consecutive sets to win the match with a score line of 19, 25; 20, 25; 25, 19; 25, 19 and 15, 13.
