The Valley, Anguilla 4 May 2010 - The students at The Morris Vanterpool Primary School will soon have a sports project upgrade valued at $5000 thanks to Avilene Richarson who emerged as the local winner of LIME’ CARIFTA Schools Sports Text Competition. The Competition, which ran from March 8 to April 5, allowed LIME’s customers to text at the regular rate of EC$0.25 for a chance to win $5000 which would be donated to finance a sports related project at the school of their choice. Projects could include the improvement of an existing sports facility; the purchase of sports-related equipment and supplies; or the establishment of a new facility.

The text competition formed part of LIME’s strong promotional and community support for the 2010 CARIFTA Games which were held in Cayman from April 3 – 5. LIME, the Caribbean’s
leading telecoms company was the Presenting Sponsor of this year’s Games having provided a massive US $200,000 towards the staging of the event and the broadcast of live coverage to 23 countries.

In addition, LIME also provided financial support for national teams attending the Games in most of the 13 Caribbean countries where the company operates. Here in Anguilla, the national team received US$5000 which went towards the purchase of airfare and team uniforms.

Mark Romney, General Manager for LIME said, “This prize is the culmination of one of the most exciting and memorable sponsorships LIME has done in Anguilla and the Caribbean. We
were very pleased to have given our people the chance to be a part of the excitement of the CARIFTA Games and also to have given our customers a chance to win something tangible and lasting for the school of their choice - we want to thank Avilene for texting and congratulate her on winning.” “We certainly hope that this donation goes a far way in enhancing the school’s sporting programme and helping to prepare our student athletes for future regional and international
competition,” Mr Romney, added.

Across the region, LIME is financing similar sports related school projects as the promotion was conducted in almost every country where the company operates. Each winning school in the participating territories had a chance to win the Grand Prize which was a visit from international sprinting sensation and former 100M World Record Holder Asafa Powell. In a random draw, the Anglican Primary School in St. Lucia emerged as the Grand Prize Winners. Asafa, who is currently ranked as the World’s third fastest man, visited the school on May 4.
