CARIBBEAN HOTEL & TOURISM ASSOCIATION SEARCHING FOR DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL
CORAL GABLES, FL – The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA), with offices in Coral Gables, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Barbados, is seeking applications from Caribbean nationals to fill the role of Deputy Director General.
CHTA was founded in 1962 and is a federation of 35 national hotel and tourism associations situated throughout and bordering the Caribbean basin. The Association is the voice of the Caribbean hospitality industry for the development of the region in the highly competitive and sophisticated environment of international tourism.
Today, tourism is widely recognized as a pivotal industry in the economy of the region and CHTA functions as the common denominator for this industry in a region of diverse nationalities, languages and styles, identifying mutual problems and marshalling the resources of the active and allied members to devise solutions.
CHTA represents all facets of the hospitality industry with more than 725 member hotels and 425 allied members.

The successful candidate must be a strategic and global thinker with proven leadership skills in a demanding and multicultural environment. The candidate must also have the ability to effect change and keep pace with the increasing challenges of a tourism industry in transition and be able to maintain and improve the relevance of CHTA to its 1,200 members.
The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal, entrepreneurial, financial, organizational and functional technology skills, and have the ability to communicate and respond to the needs of a diverse and multi-cultural range of stakeholders, including, hotel and allied members, national hotel and tourism associations, Caribbean governments, and multi-lateral and international funding agencies.
Preferred education should include business or related degrees and linguistic skills in both English and Spanish are required. French as a third language would be desirable. Previous Caribbean tourism experience along with an in-depth knowledge of the Caribbean region and substantial association management experience are required.
The position requires extensive travel within the Caribbean region, and to a lesser degree in North America and Europe.
Compensation is commensurate with experience and ability and would also be a blend of salary and an incentive membership development plan. Retirement and health benefits are also included.
