Honorable Romeo F. Pantophlet Named St. Maarten's Minister Of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport & Telecommunications
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (Oct. 16, 2012) - St. Maarten has named Honorable Romeo F. Pantophlet as the country's Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications.
In his role as Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications, Pantophlet's responsibilities include:
- Social-economic development planning
- Development of employment
- Development and stimulation of the various sectors of the economy
- Recommendations pertaining to the harbor, airport, utility companies and companies that provide transport and telecommunication facilities and services
- Development and execution of economic regulations
From 1980 - 2006, Pantophlet held positions at the Central Bureau of Statistics including the role of Chief Executive Officer. From 2006 up until his appointment as Minister, Pantophlet was the Deputy Director at the St. Maarten Academy; Economic Advisor to Commissioner Frans Richardson, and most recently, an educator in Economics and Business Administration at the St. Maarten Academy.
Pantophlet completed his high school education in the Netherlands. From there he went on to the University of South Florida where he studied and received an Associate's Degree in Business Management with a focus on Industrial, Labor Relations. Pantophlet later went on to receive a Bachelors Degree from the City University of New York, Queens College Campus, where he graduated with a degree in Organizational Economics.
Pantophlet was chairman and board member of the Dutch Quarter Community Council in St. Maarten as well as a member of the Committee Eradication of "Shanty Towns" and Board member of the St. Maarten Carnival Committee.
