DDM advises caution when donating - says verify validity of websites
(The Valley, Anguilla - Press Release) - Haiti has suffered a major disaster (magnitude 7.0 earthquake) and persons may want to assist them in their time of need.
The Department of Disaster Management is requesting that persons take care; that they verify the validity of websites being used and also that the fund being contributed to will be specifically assisting Haiti if this is their expectation.
One way to facilitate this is when writing a check, in the comments line, state “2010 Haiti Earthquake Relief”.
The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency has a regional response mechanism and would appreciate if persons supply a detailed list, via the Department of Disaster Management, of any aid being sent to Haiti as this will assist in making informed decisions on the amount and type of supplies being sent to Haiti. A more informed decision will be made with reference to relief supplies required over the next several days thus allowing the Caribbean to better assist Haiti.
We would like to thank all those who are taking the time to assist their fellow Caribbean persons in time of need.
If you require additional information please call the Department of Disaster Management on 497-2926 or 476-3622.
