American Eagles To End Daily Flights To Anguilla.
(Anguilla, BWI) - American Eagle Airlines has annouced a more than 50% reduction in their flights to Anguilla from the regional hub, San Juan Puerto Rico.
Regional Manager for the airline advised officials of the decision to reduce service from 7 days to 3 days a week, effective March 13, 2010.
The executive cited very low load factors for the decision, adding that American Airlines will need to see an increase in the loads in order to justify a return to the daily service.
The plan calls for the airline to fly into the island on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, departing San Juan (SJU) at 2:35pm and departing Anguilla (AXA) at 3.35 pm.
Contrasting the decision made in Anguilla, American Airlines about 3 months ago announced expansions from their Miami hubs to out-islands of the Bahamas with similar population sizes and tourism target markets to Anguilla. In November the airline started servicing the island of Eleuthera via two airports, 7 days per week after a 10 year absence caused by the closure of several resorts on the island.
Additionally the airline added flights to Marsh Harbour in Abaco and to Exuma.
