New Anguilla Government Sworn In
Haydn Hughes is First Nominated Member.
(The Valley, Anguilla) The Hon. Hubert Hughes (b. 1933) and Cabinet were sworn into office on Tuesday by Governor Allistair Harrison.
In addition to becoming the island's Chief Minister for the second time in his extended political career, Hughes will be the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism.
Mr. Edison Baird was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Social Development, Mr. Walcott Richardson as Minister of Home Affairs, including Labour, Lands and Immigration, and Mr. Evan Gumbs as Minister of Infrastructure and Communications.
Haydn Hughes, son of the elder Hughes, was sworn in as First Nominated Member and also as Parliamentary Secretary with responsibility to assist the Chief Minister in Tourism. Haydn did not offer himself as a candidate in the 2010 election preferring instead to work hard on the campaign, both on the ground, on radio and on the world wide web.
As expected, one of the first announcements by the new Chief Minister was a public holiday for the Hon. James Ronald Webster ("Father of The Nation") slated for March 2nd.
Among his priorities, Chief Minister Hughes has listed; Tourism, Electoral Reform and Good Relations with the the UK government. He has said that the AUM Government will move expeditiously to eliminate corruption. He has indicated that first sitting of the house of assembly is being planned for Friday February 26, at which time the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be appointed.

I cannot promise 100% of it will be done but every single day, every effort will be made to get them done starting with the legislative aspects first.
