Barbara Webster-Bourne becomes Anguilla's first female Speaker of the House of Assembly.

(The Valley, Anguilla) The House of Assembly opened on Friday 1 1/2 weeks after the February 15 elections, with the new AUM government led by the Hon. Hubert  Hughes at the helm.

History was made this day when at about 2:00pm, Barbara Webster-Bourne became the first woman to be elected to the position of Speaker of the House of Assembly.

In commending her achievement the Governor of Anguilla, Alistair Harrison said, "I believe that she holds one of the most difficult jobs in Anguilla and I wish her well in her important duties."

Webster-Bourne replaces the outgoing Speaker, Mr. David Carty.
