In keeping with a campaign promise and satisfying sentiments in his electorate that started growing strongly midway through the term of the former Administration, today March 2nd has been declared a public Holiday by the Hughes' government in observance of the Hon. James Ronald Webster - a political ally.

Mr. Webster, Anguilla's Revolutionary leader and first Chief Minister, is being granted this holiday in honour of his contributions dating back to his successful leadership of the island away from its uncelebrated union with St. Kitts.

Webster is credited with giving the people of Anguilla hope at a time when the reality of circumstances could have easily led to despair.

The decision to honour him with this day is as political as the decision to not do so previously - perhaps fitting for a man whose political fire has remained through the years.
