Optimist Club Announces Winners of Poster Competition

The Optimist Club of Anguilla remains committed to the youth of Anguilla. The theme for 2010’s youth week was ‘I smile, I dream, I soar’ a reflection of the Caribbean District’s Theme for 2010 to ‘soar and shine.’

One of the highlights of the youth week was a poster competition. Students under the age of 16 were invited to make posters depicting the theme ‘I smile, I dream, I soar.’ It was inspirational to observe student’s interpretation of the theme and to witness their enthusiasm for the competition.

The winners were recently announced. In the 11 and under category, Kelly Pierre of the Orelia Kelly Primary School was awarded the winner. His poster depicted an eagle looking over a university and a hospital and also showed that Mr. Pierre aspired to attend university and to become a doctor. He received a 100 US dollar prize sponsored by Counsel Ltd.

Sharona Browne of the Valley Primary School was given a honourary mention and received a gift certificate from Coral Reef Bookstore in Little Harbour.

The winning prize of 100US in the 12-15 categories was also sponsored by Counsel Ltd and was won by Danicia Smith. Her poster spoke to the power of positive thinking and behavior in our quest to soar. The prizes were awarded during the Optimist Social meeting on June 19th at the club house.

The Optimist Club of Anguilla would like to express thank you to Coral Reef Bookstore, Counsel Ltd, Gee Wee’s bakery, highway bakery, Lake’s Market place and all other friends and well wishers who contributed in some way to making the poster competition and youth week a success.

The Optimist Club of Anguilla’s motto is ‘friend of youth’. We will continue to recognize and reward our young people as they continue to smile, dream and soar.
