Ten TIEAs Now Signed by The Bahamas

The Bahamas concluded a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with Belgium and France this week, its ninth and tenth tax agreement respectively.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for The Bahamas,  the Hon. Brent Symonette, signed The Bahamas’ Agreement with Belgium at the Hôtel des Finances in Brussels. Mr. Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Belgium signed on behalf of that country. The Bahamas’ TIEA with France also came into effect on Monday.

Below are remarks by DPM Symonette, made at the signing of The Bahamas’ tax agreement with Belgium.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is very pleased to sign this Agreement between the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Kingdom of Belgium for the Exchange of Information Relating to Tax Matters.

This Agreement is the ninth concluded by the Government of The Bahamas, the fifth with a member of the OECD, and it incorporates the accepted international standards in respect of transparency and effective information exchange in tax matters.

This level of cooperation between The Bahamas and the Kingdom of Belgium signifies the goodwill that exists between our two countries. The Bahamas looks forward to a productive relationship with the Kingdom of Belgium in this and other areas.
