On Tuesday, July 13 2010, Anguilla will publicly examine the issue of cultural diversity within the context of sustainable national development. The discussion which will take the form of a public forum, will take place at the Teacher’s Resource Centre at 7:30 pm.

The forum will feature the presentation of a paper by well known cultural activist Mrs. Ijahnya Christian, a performance by the All Ah Wee Young Theatre Players and a discussion among those present about the issue at hand.

Christian will present an overview of Anguilla’s Cultural diversity particularly as it relates to, though not limited to our interaction with other cultures.  It will explore the degree to which our identity has been shaped by others, seek to identify the period of our history from which the Anguillian identity emerged and review the continued impact of other cultures on shaping it. Upon conclusion she will present a set of values or standards that addresses the ongoing issue of cultural diversity within our development model.

The forum is part of a series being held as part of the process to develop a culture policy for Anguilla. They are designed to provide the general public an opportunity explore the relationship between culture and development and to provide input into the policy. The process is being spearheaded by the Culture Policy Development Committee, within the Ministry of Social Development.
