Gli Gli Sailing North on Historic Journey.
Expects to be on Anguilla by  May 20.

April 28, 2007: In a symbolic yet meaningful journey the Gli Gli, a spectacular traditional Carib crafted Canoe first launched in 1997, will once again set sail from Dominica.

Unlike their inaugural journey south to Guyana, the 35-foot traditional dugout sailing canoe with a 14 member Kalinga Carib crew will be headed out north from Dominica into the Leeward Islands.  The group will sail from Antigua to the Virgin Islands via Nevis , St. Kitts St. Barths, St, Maarten, Anguilla and then on to Tortola across the Anegada passage. It will be the first time that a Carib Canoe has sailed in these waters since Europeans took firm control of the islands and maliciously stained their reputation with the myth of cannibalism.

The group is expected to sail into Anguilla on May 20 and begin heading out via Prickly pear to the BVI on May 23 - weather permitting. They plan to make presentations  and visit Schools while on the island.
Throughout their visit crew will be giving talks about Carib culture, performing traditional Carib music, demonstrating their unique craft-making techniques, and showing the BBC documentary, The Quest of the Carib Canoe, a film about Gli Gli’s historic sail from Dominica to Guyana

According to a release from the group, "The voyage is being undertaken to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Gli Gli’s creation and to continue the mission of her 1997 expedition from Dominica to Guyana, by symbolically reuniting the Carib descendents of the Leeward Islands. The expedition intends to draw attention to the role the Carib tribe have played in the regions history and culture and to promote recognition of the Caribbean’s largest surviving indigenous tribe"
