November 13, 2007, The Valley, Anguilla:
Data from the Statistics Department of the Government of Anguilla
showed a small 0.8% increase in the inflation rate for the island's Consumer Price Index (AXACPI)
between the 3rd quarter (July - Sept) 2007 and the 2nd quarter (April -
June) 2007, for goods and services. When compared to the 3rd quarter in
2006, the increase observed in the same period was even smaller at 0.2%.

3rd quarter (July - Sept) 2007
Of the 11 categories measured, 6 showed increases while
the others registered decreases over this period. The
highest increase, 5.6%, was observed in the Drinks & Tobacco
category, primarily due to a rise in the price of rum.
A rise in the price of private tutoring led to increases of
5.2% for the Education category. This percentage was equal
to the magnitude decrease observed in the Fuel category
while 'Clothing & Footwear' declined by 4.7%.

Between the 2nd and 3rd quarters this year the AXACPI
showed less than a 1% increase. Of the 11 categories
measured, 2 remained unchanged, 5 increased while a
near equal number decreased. The most notable increase was
2.3% in Accommodation, driven in part by an increase in the
cost of imported bricks. Fueled by a 15.1% rise in
the price per gallon of gasoline and increased cost of car
batteries, the Transportation and Communication category
showed increases of 2.0%.
The most significant decreases were observed in the Clothing
& Footwear category which experienced an overall decrease of
2.5%.

Overall the data shows, that though the index for All
Items has changed very little since 2006, it has increased
significantly since September 2004. See chart below.
