January 17,
2008: As the track and field season begins athletes in
Anguilla are feverishly training to participate in the
annual J.W. Proctors track and field classic which will be
held on the 9th February 2008. The meet promises to be one
of excitement as athletes from the primary schools, the
Albena lake Hodge Comprehensive School, St. Maarten and
Tortola will clash at the Ronald Webster Park.
Tortola’s team will feature several athletes who attended
last years World Youth Championships in the Ostrava Czech
Republic. Tortola may very well expect to dominate the
event, however Shinelle Proctor and D’ann Rogers plan on
thwarting their efforts as they want to defend Anguilla’s
honour. Arthur Ward who also attended the World Youth
Championship will be showcasing his talent in the triple
jump. He plans on using this event as preparation for the
Carifta games and hopefully the World Junior Championships
later this year.Denville Ruan and Joseph “T.J” Pembleton
will also be going neck to neck in both the long jump and
the sprints. Other athletes such as Makaba Reid, Kisio
Welch, Clive White, Renick Richardson and Dennis Brooks will
also be there working hard, looking for a spot on the
Carifta squad.
Head coach Mr. Rollins Richardson is therefore encouraging
all athletes to continue training hard and for members of
the general public to come and support the track Classic on
the 9th of February 2008. The Anguilla Athletic Association
wishes to express sincere appreciation to J. W. Proctors for
the continued sponsorship for this track event.
