Calypso Association President calls for early preparations
for the 2008 season (ACA)
January 31, 2008: Steve Hodge, President of the
Anguilla Calypso Association (ACA), is encouraging
Calypsonians to begin early preparations for 2008 after what
he deemed to have been a successful 2007 season. The full
content of the letter, distributed to the media is below:
“I take this opportunity to express greetings to all
members of the Anguilla Calypso Association and calypso
lovers and wish all a successful 2008.
The year 2007 can be viewed as a success. This can be
attributed to the high level of participation, the quality
of the renditions and the return of veterans such as King
Dynamite, who captured the coveted crown. In spite of this,
the Anguilla Calypso Association sees the need for continued
improvements if we are to further elevate the art form in
Anguilla and continue to satisfy and widen our fan base.
Foremost among these improvements is the need for all
Calypsonians to begin early preparations for the 2008
calypso season.
Coming out of discussions with the leader of the Platinum
Band it was agreed that the band will also make an effort to
prepare early and to increase the frequency of practice
sessions in the lead up to the calypso events for 2008. This
will serve to reduce congestion and the length of rehearsal
time in the band house. In the meantime other interested
musicians and composers are encouraged to make themselves
available.
While every effort will be made to reach Calypsonians
individually, Calypsonians are encouraged to monitor the
radio and news paper for announcements on upcoming meetings
and events for calypso 2008. You can also contact the
President of the association Mr. Steve Hodge for
information.
Furthermore, I wish to place on record on behalf of the
Anguilla Calypso Association our appreciation to the 2007
calypso Sub-Committee lead by Mr. Courtney Morton for a job
well done. For 2008 we look forward to further building our
working relationship.
Finally to the sponsors and supporters, I express our
appreciation for the support given to us Calypsonians; we
look forward to your continued support in 2008 as we work
towards the promotion and development of the art form.
