The Valley, Anguilla -Grey clouds hovered over the Webster
Park as the ALHCS Spartans and Spartans F.C. battled for
bragging rights on Sunday 24th November 2008. With the
recent form displayed by the ALHCS Spartans, it was going to
be an interesting battle. The ALHCS Spartans attacked like
killer bees but were swatted away on many attempts by their
older adversaries.
Early in the second half Devon Daniels
(#14) reminded the crowd of his skills as he put his team
ahead with a goal. He was not done, as late in the second
half he scored the second to give his side a comfortable
lead. With a 'never say die' attitude, the school boys
struck back with a goal from Dameon Bailey (#13). However it
was not enough to deny Spartans F.C a 2:1 victory.
The main course of the evening was the
long anticipated game between the arch rivals, Roaring Lions
and the Sunset Attackers. Pageantry was on show as the
Attackers took the fight to the Roaring Lions with good
passing and communication. However the king of the football
jungle was able to thwart all aggressive plays.
In the second half there seemed to be a
shift in momentum as the Attackers advanced in waves.Melvin
“Melo” Angle (#14) of the Attackers got the scoring started,
putting the Attackers in the lead 1:0. His team mate, Edmond
Derick (#2) soon entered a goal of his own putting the
Attackers in the lead 2:0. By all accounts one would have
concluded the game was over but have been backed into a
corner the Roaring Lions came out fighting. Unfortunately,
several easily missed chances by the Roaring Lions denied
them the opportunity to equalize or even possibly win the
game.
The intense game was tainted as Junior
Anthony (#12) of the Attackers was red carded for an
unsportsmanlike play after a tackle. The game concluded with
a 2:0 victory for the Sunset Attackers. |
