Over the course of the last three weeks, 14 young persons
and adults from various parts of Anguilla have been taking
part in a furniture upholstery workshop organized by the
Blowing Youth Development Centre. This workshop was
facilitated by Ms. Marie Mason from the island of Nevis and
has been described as a tremendous success by the
participants. Students taking part in this workshop have
obtained the skills to upholster furniture pieces such as
wing chairs, ottomans, bar stools, foot rests, dining chairs
and love seats. Ms. Mason, who studied furniture upholstery
in Canada, has a wealth of knowledge and skills which she is
more than happy to share with all who are willing to commit
some time to learn.

The Centre, recognizing that great
interest has been expressed by persons who did not get the
opportunity to be part of the first workshop, has decided to
do another three week upholstery workshop. This began on
Monday December 1st 2008 and will continue to December 19th
2008. If you missed it the first time, this is another
chance to be part of this very exciting workshop. This will
allow you to get the skills you need to give your furniture
a brand new look just in time for Christmas. Interested
persons are welcomed to view some of our work in progress
and our beautiful finished products from the last three
weeks of training.
Classes will take place five days a week at the Blowing
Point Methodist Church Hall between the hours of 9:00 am to
12:00 noon for one group of 4 and an evening class from 5:00
pm to 8:00 pm for a second group of 4 especially for persons
who work during the morning hours. Participants could choose
to attend whichever class is convenient to them.
Registration is only US$ 50.00 or EC$135.00. Remember that
space is limited for this workshop to only 8 students
therefore; Interested persons are asked to contact the
Centre Manager Ms. Jemima Francis at 729-2860 as soon as
possible. Registration is opened all this week until
Sunday 7th December to allow participants to bring in
their furniture pieces to be upholstered. Ms. Mason will
begin assisting participants to strip their furniture as
soon as it arrives.
The Blowing Point Youth Development Centre is urging
everyone; especially the youth, to come out and be part of
this workshop. Please continue to show your support as we
seek to educate and transform our people.
