Imagine the colors of the Primary schools and the excitement
generated as the children took part in the inaugural Primary
School Volleyball championships. Well if you missed the
tournament, then you missed the future players of Anguilla’s
national volleyball squads. Participating teams included
Alwyn Allison, Adrian T Hazell, Morris Vanterpool, Orealia
Kelly and the Valley Primary school.
From the first game a pensive, yet
excited persona blanketed the players as each tried to rally
their school to victory.
As each match progressed one could hear
mothers shouting “that’s my baby”, while some dads were too
busy giving their children some coaching advice. It only
seemed to enhance the girls' finals between power house OKPS
and AAPS. Both schools traded serves and bumps but in the
end experienced Colleen “Coco” Johnson lead her team OKPS
home to the championship.
The boys' finals between arch rivals VPS
and RPS reignited a rivalry that is as old as both schools.
Both schools were intent in trying to out set each other.
However VPS with some intelligent play from several players
were able to take the trophy back to the Valley.
Congratulations are extended to the OKPS
and VPS for winning the inaugural Primary School Volleyball
championships.
