(The Valley Anguilla) February 18, 2008: Since 2001,
the Roaring Lions football club has been conducting a grass
roots football training camp for children to help cultivate
home grown talent. The club’s venture has been made possible
through the kind sponsorship of Sunset Homes. Sponsorship
ranges from USD $2000.00 - $2500.00 whenever materials are
procured for the group. Items that are normally purchased
include balls, cones, children and coaches’ uniforms and
shoes for deserving athletes.
The coaches are Nigel Connor, Lester Connor, Gaekwad
St.Helaire, Clarence Benjamin and Terrance Rogers. The
coaches and sole sponsor, Sunset Homes, have noted an
increase in the number of participants since inception
in 2001. At present there are over 30 youngsters who
regularly attend on Saturday mornings; consequently an
additional day of practice will be introduced. to facilitate
this, the coaches are soliciting the cooperation of the
parents during the sessions. This assistance can be in the
form of helping to hydrate athletes and any other duty that
may arise at that time.
The club is also cognizant of its social responsibility and
the role it plays in molding youngsters. Therefore plans are
being finalized to have various community stake holders and
the community at large to interact with the group for the
development of proper deportment in the youths.
A big dream of the group is to have its own home ground,
at which time more emphasis can be placed on field care, an
important aspect of the game. |
