Salt Ponds form an important part of the fine fabric of  Anguilla.   Like most  other Anguillians, I grew up only a stone's throw away from one pond and a brief walk to a couple others. As far back as I can look,  I see little boys running along,  sailing boats or skipping  rocks in one of our ponds.

While listening to the endless sound of birds, it never dawned on me that 20 years later these would become an endangered part of our environment.

Anguilla's ponds are excellent areas for Bird Watching.  They are home to permanent and migratory birds most of which stop over during the rainy season.

Salt produced in some of these ponds once formed the back-bone of Anguilla's economy and in more ways than one they are an integral part of the psyche of this society.

While walking along the side of the ponds one may also encounter crabs of different sizes or you may find burrowed evidence of their presence.

The walk is interesting and everyone should take the time to enjoy one.
